These prices apply to uncomplicated, superficial skin lumps only. Lumps that look suspicious on examination — including anything consistent with a mast cell tumour, fast-growing lumps, lumps firmly attached to tissue underneath, or lumps in locations needing wider surgical margins (such as the leg, paw, face or near a joint) — are assessed individually and quoted separately. This is because these cases often need more tissue removed, longer surgical time, and sometimes reconstructive closure — the flat rates above simply aren't built for that. We'll always explain why, and confirm pricing, before proceeding.

Pre-anaesthetic blood testing and histopathology (laboratory analysis of the lump) are not included in the price above, as these are recommended case-by-case. We'll talk you through whether they're right for your dog before your appointment.

What Actually Determines the Price?

Size of the lump. Larger lumps generally mean more surgical time and a bigger incision — but size is only one factor.

Location. A lump on the side of the chest is usually far simpler to remove than one on an eyelid, a paw, or near the anus, where there's less spare skin and more delicate surrounding structures.

Whether it looks straightforward or suspicious. A lump that's soft, mobile and superficial behaves very differently in surgery to one that's firm, fixed to underlying tissue, or growing quickly — regardless of size. This is the single biggest reason two "similar-looking" lumps can end up with very different quotes.

Number of lumps. Many dogs develop more than one lump as they get older. Removing them together, in the same anaesthetic, is usually far more cost-effective than separate procedures.

Histopathology and pre-anaesthetic blood testing are recommended for many lumps but aren't included in our standard package pricing — we'll discuss whether they're appropriate for your dog specifically.

Does Every Lump Need To Be Removed?

Not necessarily. Many lumps are harmless and can simply be monitored over time. Others may benefit from a Fine Needle Aspirate (FNA) to check what they are before deciding on surgery. Your vet will talk you through the right approach once they've actually examined the lump.
