Our Veterinary Nurses

 

Rachel — Head Veterinary Nurse

Rachel has been part of South Brisbane Vet since day one — literally. She was there from the very start of construction, and much of the clinic's distinctive look and feel carries her personal touch; a good part of SBV's unique decor reflects her own aesthetic.

​

Beyond keeping the clinic running smoothly, Rachel is the primary carer for our resident clinic cats. Dunkin, a Ragdoll, came to us as a surrender after his family's circumstances changed with the arrival of a newborn. Donut, a Russian Blue, was one of SBV's very first clients when the clinic first opened its doors, and was later surrendered when his family relocated back to Europe — his original owners would only agree to hand him over to Dr Nic himself, who has cared for Donut since he was just six weeks old.

Gemma — Senior Veterinary Nurse

Gemma has been part of the South Brisbane Vet team for three years, having started with us as a student before growing into the experienced, dependable senior nurse she is today.

​

Like Rachel, she was there from day one of construction, and played a key role in building the clinic up. Known for her exceptional customer service, Gemma has a natural ability to put both pets and their owners at ease, whether it's a routine visit or a more anxious appointment.

​

Outside the clinic, Gemma is a keen sewer and has recently taken up 3D printing — something she's begun putting to good use designing and printing veterinary items.

Dana — Senior Veterinary Nurse

Dana brings more than eight years of veterinary nursing experience to the team, four of which have been here at South Brisbane Vet. Like Gemma, she was there from day one of construction, and played a key role in building the clinic up through its first two years.

​

Dana recently took a well-earned gap year to further her education in complementary medicine, bringing a broader perspective back to her nursing practice since her return.

​

Dana speaks English.

Isabelle — Veterinary Nurse

Isabelle joined South Brisbane Vet as a student and has spent the past year growing into an experienced, highly capable nurse. She's built a loyal following among clients who appreciate her exceptional customer service and genuine warmth.

​

Isabelle comes from a family with a background in the avian industry, giving her particular confidence and experience with bird handling — a skill that's not always easy to find in general practice.

​

Isabelle speaks Tagalog and English.

Our Veterinarians

 

Dr Duvall

Dr Duvall graduated from James Cook University and first came to South Brisbane Vet as a student completing his vocational placement. He enjoyed the experience so much that Dr Nic offered him a position on the team — and he's been with us ever since.

​

Dr Duvall has become something of a resident Chihuahua expert, helped along by his own two Chihuahuas, who make the occasional appearance at the clinic. He's built a devoted following of clients who will only see him for their pets' care.

​

Dr Duvall speaks Afrikaans and English.

Dr Gwenda

Dr Gwenda recently graduated from Murdoch University. Like Dr Duvall, she first joined South Brisbane Vet as a student and was offered a position on the team after her placement.

​

Clients consistently appreciate Dr Gwenda's lovely personality and gentle approach, and she's become a well-loved part of the team, known for how well she gets on with everyone around her.

​

Dr Gwenda speaks Mandarin, Chinese and English.

FAQ

 

Can I speak to someone in my own language?

Yes. Our team includes staff who collectively speak English, Tagalog, Afrikaans and Mandarin Chinese. If you'd prefer to communicate in one of these languages, simply let our reception team know when booking your appointment and we'll do our best to arrange this whenever possible.

​

Do you have Tagalog-speaking staff?

Yes. Isabelle, one of our veterinary nurses, speaks Tagalog and English, and is happy to assist Tagalog-speaking pet owners whenever possible.

​

Do you have Afrikaans-speaking staff?

Yes. Dr Duvall speaks Afrikaans and English, and is available to assist Afrikaans-speaking clients.

​

Do you have Mandarin-speaking staff?

Yes. Dr Gwenda speaks Mandarin, Chinese and English, helping us support Mandarin-speaking families across South Brisbane.
